“A History of Maple Syrup,” Windham

Feb. 20, Friday, 7:30pm, “This is What Happened,” Everyone loves to hear a good story, and the popularity of a night of ordinary people sharing experiences about their lives has exploded all over the country, including Maine. Now it arrives in the Oxford Hills. Using an OMG theme, eight locals, Carol Jones, Scott Vlaun, Cynthia Riley, Andy Turner, Donna Chickering, Leah Haney, Mike Porter and Kathy Greenleaf bravely share five minute stories from their lives that range from hilarious to inspiring to life altering. They will use no scripts or accompaniment, refreshments served, those attending are encouraged to bring a donation for the local food pantry, free, Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main Street, Norway. Feb. 21, Saturday, 11am-4pm, “Cabin Fever Reliever Living History Day at Norlands,” stop by for some old-time fun, 19th-century style, activities are provided by interpreters in period clothing portraying people of the 1800’s Norlands neighborhood or members of the original Livermore Washburn family, the school’marm will be ready to greet you in the one-room schoolhouse, in the mansion you might meet a Washburn who will tell you all about his or her famous family, $5/adults, $3/12 and under, free/5 and under, Washburn – Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road, Livermore. Feb. 21, Saturday, 7pm, “James and the Giant Peach,” James Trotter is a young boy who lives with his horrible aunts. After taking seeds from a little old man, he discovers a giant peach growing from a tree. After going through a tunnel in the giant peach, he meets his new friends, The Old Green Grasshopper, Silkworm, Centipede, Spider, Ladybug, Earthworm and Glowworm. They set off on a wild adventure with the runaway peach encountering sharks, cloud men, seagulls and a triumphant ending with our hero James Trotter. This production is a great show for children and is a production put together as a result of a five-day workshop under the direction of Mary Bastoni, $3, Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center, 18 Bradley St., Fryeburg.
