Jan. 1, Thursday, 10-11am, “First Day Hike,” Join us for a leisurely 0.3 mile guided walk to enjoy “Winter in the Woods” and learn how plants and animals survive the cold winter months. Wear warm clothes and sturdy footwear. Plan on one hour; no dogs please, meet at the picnic shelter by the second parking lot, free park admission for hikers, Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park, Freeport. Jan. 1, Thursday, 11am, “Set the Pace 5k,” starts at the Smokestack Grill, 6th annual Set the Pace 5K. Rolling hills with a quick downhill finish makes this a great way to start the year. Jan. 2, Friday, 6:30pm/doors open, “First Fridays-Just Desserts,” The series features amazing music, luscious desserts (instead of a full meal) and a lower price, The fifth season will be kicked off by local favorite Crabapple Jam. Crabapple Jam is the “house band” from Freeport’s Open Stage Coffeehouse–four multi-talented musicians playing a variety of instruments. Members Eric Bryant, Meg and John Albright, and Shari Broder will present us with a not-too-sweet, not-too tart acoustical mix of bluegrass, blues, folk, and fiddle tunes–including some originals, $5/includes admission to concert, desserts and beverage, Freeport Community Center, 53 Depot Street, Freeport.
