“Sound of Music Sing-a-Long,” The Strand, Rockland

Dec. 26, Friday, 1-4pm, “Sing-Along Verson of ‘The Sound of Music’,” This special Sing-Along screening is not just a chance to see the classic movie on the big screen, it’s a major audience participation event with subtitles for all the songs and some fun surprises, Emcee Terry Bregy will guide the audience through the afternoon of music, where you can sing along with Julie, wave your Edelweiss, dance in the gazebo with Liesl, snuggle up with Gretel and join in choruses of “My Favorite Things,” $10/adults, $5/under 18, The Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street, Rockland. Dec. 27, Saturday, 8pm, “Steve Grover Quintet,” The Steve Grover New Quintet (featuring Steve Grover, drums/composer; Christine Correa, voice; Andrew Rathbun, sax; Chris Van Voorst Van Beest, bass; and Frank Carlberg, piano) is dedicated to performing the original songs of its leader, Steve Grover. Using texts by poets both well-known and contemporary, the songs follow forms suggested by the verse, resulting in unpredictable, yet accessible music from a contemporary jazz perspective.
