October 17-19, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/doors open, “Halls of Horror,” Standish Schoolhouse opens its doors to provide a frightful event, come explore the creepy corridors and be deliciously terrified, $10, Standish Schoolhouse Arts Center, 16 Richville Road, Standish. Oct. 17, Friday, 8pm, “Heather Masse and Jed Wilson with Mike and Ruthy,” two great acts. Heather, one of the sirens from the Wailin’ Jennys and a local girl before stardom, can be heard regularly on Prairie Home Companion, where she’s one of Garrison’s favorites, she has a beautiful voice and spirit and sings many styles from folk to jazz. Mike Merenda and Ruthy Ungar cut their musical teeth as part of the Mammals and are now a terrific duo on their own. Ruthy comes from Americana royalty being the daughter of fiddler Jay Ungar, they have been referred to as carrying the torch for the likes of Woody Guthrie and the Carter family, but their indie roots are completely original, $25 pp ($1 handling fee), Stone Mountain Arts Center, 695 Dug Wat Road, Brownfield. Oct. 18, Saturday, 12-4pm, “Fall Festival,” we’re having a Chili cook-off with categories for both amateurs and experts, there will be live music by The Brewins, a beirgarden, a used ski sale benefitting the Shawnee Peak Adaptive Program and, of course fun festive activities for the whole family including a hayride, pumpkin carving, a classic car cruise-in, the Bridgton Fire Department with be onsite with their food truck as well as a number of local area vendors, $15, entry includes a pumpkin, a hayride and chili voting tickets, $5/5-10, free/4 and under, Shawnee Peak, 119 Mountain Road, Bridgton.
