Captivating Lakefront Home on Lake Pennesseewassee, Norway, Maine
Classically contemporary and clean best describe this lakefront house for sale on Lake Pennesseewassee in Norway, Maine. Located at 28 Dove Way, the house is spectacular.
Linda and Arnold had it
built in the summer of 1999. “We held our family Thanksgiving in it that fall,” she says, “and moved in January 2000, after we both retired.”
The
year-round home sits above the lake, aka Norway Lake, and is surrounded by nine acres of woodland — a location second to none. The house encompasses 2,500 square feet and features outstanding views of the lake, mountains and woods. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and the kitchen has granite countertops. You can entertain in the formal dining area or relax downstairs in the family room, complete with a wood stove. From the family room, you can step outside onto a covered patio.
There are three bedrooms, two of which are located on the second floor. The
first floor master suite opens to the porch, which extends along the front of the house and wraps around to the side.
“The views are forever changing, enchanting first snows of winter, endless sunsets, fields with spring flowers, brilliant fall foliage, double rainbows, glow of the full moon threw the windows,
sky of endless stars,” says Linda. “We have become attached to the deer, watching the baby fawns in spring, the fox searching for food in the morning, the hummingbirds that arrive promptly every Mother’s Day, the Baltimore Orioles every spring and fall, listening to the loons, and the fun of spotting a rabbit in the field.”
Nine acres means there’s plenty of room to entertain, including a
fire pit and patio. “The home has been a perfect setting for extended family gathering of all kinds including holiday dinners, picnics, lots of sports and evening campfires,” says Linda. “It has been a magical gathering place for the grandchildren to visit at holidays, our annual Autumn Soiree and Weekends with Cousins.”
The property includes
150 feet of frontage on the lake, which covers 922 acres just west of the town of Norway. At five miles long and about a half mile wide, you’ll want to boat, fish, swim, sail, paddleboard and kayak.
Where should you store your vehicles and toys? There’s a
detached two-car garage and shed for the outdoor equipment.
Besides the privacy, Linda and Arnold have appreciated that the neighbors are wonderful and it’s close to town. The
unique, historic character of Norway is forever present on Main Street, where carefully preserved architecture enhances the shops, eateries, artistic outlets and other amenities.
Though Linda and Arnold love living in Norway, health issues are pulling them away so that they can be closer to family. That gives you the opportunity to purchase this property and host your own themed events, like the Weekends with Cousins. (I don’t know about you, but I love that idea) It’s only an hour from Portland and three hours from Boston.
Spoil yourself and family in this spectacular space just footsteps from Norway Lake.
