July 24 – 27, Thursday – Sunday, “Yankee Brass Band Maine Tour,” The Yankee Brass band, one of the premier recreation 19th-century bands playing period horns and music, is in Maine in 2014. Concerts are as follows: Tuesday, Colby College Chapel, Waterville: Wed, Sail, Power and Steam Museum, Rockland; Thurs., On the Green at Paris Hill; Fri., Willowbrook Village Museum, Newfield; Sat., Bethel Historical Society. See the watershed from a new perspective as we travel by canoe and kayak through many of the lakes that form the “30 Mile River,” including Lovejoy Pond. Through this once-a-year opportunity, participants will be permitted to travel a continuous route, thanks to the generous landowners that grant us permission to portage across their property for this event. This 5K race and 1M walk/run supports the Smithfield Baptist Church. There will be prizes for each age group and a relaxed atmosphere. Registration is only $5.00.
