Riverside Camp Near Lake Annabessacook in Monmouth, Maine

A great starter camp could be yours on Jug Stream in Monmouth, Maine. Located at 3 Richards Lane, the property has direct access to Lake Annabessacook.

Built in the 1950s, Kelly, the current owner, purchased the house in 1987 because her family had camps nearby. This was an opportunity to own waterfront property at a reasonable price.

This five-room house has two bedrooms, one full bath and encompasses 936 square feet. The interior is open concept. A woodstove makes it a cozy place to enjoy during spring, summer and fall. With some tender loving care, the possibilities are endless. A little work will quickly turn it into a charming space that could serve as your home base for hunting, fishing and exploring the Belgrade Lakes Region.

There’s plenty of room outdoors for a BBQ, either on the deck or in the yard. “We have great memories of summer parties and having family and friends spend time ‘upta camp’ all these years,” says Kelly.

Jug Stream and woodsy views can be enjoyed from the house and deck. Kelly says that they’ve seen loons, otters and eagles from this spot. And, as I mentioned above, there is direct access from the stream to Annabessacook. Lake Annabessacook has a surface area of 1,391 acres with a maximum depth of 47 feet and an average depth of 17 feet.

Anglers value it as one of the most popular largemouth bass fishing spots in Central Maine. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife manages the lake for this warmwater species. Several bass tournaments are held throughout the season. It’s not unusual to catch a true trophy.

Kelly reminds us that despite these tournaments, “during the summer and especially on holiday weekends the lake is not overwhelmed with boat traffic. It’s very peaceful.”

Her favorite spot for a meal is Uncle Moe’s Diner in Sabattus. Monmouth and Winthrop also offer great dining choices.  And you won’t want to miss the plays at the Theater at Monmouth.

Augusta and Lewiston are only about twenty minutes away, while it’s a forty minute drive to LL Bean and other shops in Freeport and fifty minutes to all that Portland has to offer. Boston is about a three hour drive.

Why are they selling? “We have purchased a property closer to home,” says Kelly.

Can’t you hear this camp calling out to you: “I want to be yours.” Heed the call and head upta camp.
