July 10, Thursday, 12:00 p.m., “Billy Elliot,” the Ogunquit Playhouse is honored to be one of the first regional theatres in the U.S. to produce Billy Elliot, this amazing show features Elton John’s spectacular score and an inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle against the odds to make his dream come true, $39 – $79 per person, Ogunquit Playhouse,10 Main St., Ogunquit. July 10, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., “Daponte String Quartet Summer Series I: Made in America,” The DaPonte String Quartet’s first summer series, “Made in America,” arrives in time to help get in the spirit of Independence Day with a smorgasborg of American composers, the program includes old friends like George Gershwin’s gorgeous “Lullaby,” Randall Thompson’s moving “Alleluia” (a choral piece re-worked for string quartet), and Samuel Barber’s well-loved Adagio from String Quartet, Op. 11, concert goers will also hear works that might be new to them: Earl Louis Stewart’s fascinating fusion of blues and classical called “Blues Fugues” and, perhaps most intriguing, George Crumb’s seminal work “Black Angels for Electric String Quartet: Thirteen Images from the Dark Land,” $15 per person, Wells Reserve at Laundholm, 342 Laundholm Road, Wells. July 10 – 14, Thursday – Sunday, “Music Man,” an affectionate look at Smalltown USA is the story of a fast talking salesman as he cons the people of River City Iowa. Meredith Wilsons music includes much loved American music including “Till There was You”, “Trouble in River City”, “Wells Fargo Wagon” and of course “76 Trombones” funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best, enjoy homemade blueberry pie at intermission, $10 – $25 per person, Hackmatack Playhouse, 538 Maine 9, Berwick. July 11, Saturday, 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., “17th Edition Library Race,” 5K Walk/Run/Wheelchair through Kennebunk’s historic district to benefit the Kennebunk Free Library, register online (discount for seniors), mail-in or same-day. Prizes for top finishers, live music, raffle, free dinner to all registered participants and beer/wine served to those with positive ID. July 12, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., “A Silent Movie Festival,” silent movie festival with piano accompaniment by Peter Stickney, the event takes place from 10:00 through 3:00 PM on Saturday for session 1 and 2. Mr. Stickney will be playing for session 1 and 2, session 3 through 5 begins on July 13th at 10:00 AM and continues to 7:00 PM. Mr. Stickey will play on session 4 beginning at 1:00 PM, tour the museum, ride the 1894 horse carousel, and visit the sandwich and country store, price of admission to museum, 19th Century Willowbrook Museum, 70 Elm Street, Newfield.
