Lovely Raised Ranch Offers Grand Views of Messalonskee Lake, Sidney, Maine

Bring the kids and all your toys to this large lakefront home on Messalonskee Lake in Sidney, Maine. Located at 439 Hosta Lane South, the property includes a year-round house and seasonal chalet.

The main house is a raised ranch with sunset views. Enter from the back deck by the driveway, and you’ll be in the open concept kitchen and living room. Large windows offer lake views. On the first floor, you’ll also find a full bath and master suite. Across the front of the house is a delightful sunporch and a larger deck.

Upstairs — are you ready for this — there are six bedrooms, three on each side of a central hallway. So here’s the thing. Since there is no bathroom on the second floor, we’re thinking you might want to change one bedroom to a full bath. Your call.
Under the sunporch is a garage. Looks can be deceiving and such is the case here. It appears by the door to be a one car garage. Instead, Rocky, the current owner, has fit three vehicles and a boat underneath. That being the case, we’re going to call it a one-plus car garage. You might want to use it to store several boats and a vehicle. It’s an amazing space that is heated by a furnace, thus keeping the pipes to the first floor bathrooms and kitchen from freezing. Speaking of that, the heating system on the first floor is a woodstove.

A few steps away is the two-bedroom chalet — a perfect guest home or possible rental income. Guests or renters will love the fact that the loons nest in the reeds of the cove and osprey nest on the island a mile up the lake. Other wildlife sightings might include mink and bald eagles, deer and fox, and even hummingbirds.
The well-landscaped property features 200 feet of frontage on 3,510-acre Messalonskee, which is also known as Snow Pond. That name is for Philip Snow who hunted in the area around the lake during the mid-1700s and later moved his family here.

The crystal clear water of Messalonskee is part of the famed Belgrade Chain of Lakes. Because the lake is nine miles long, it is also sometimes referred to as Nine Mile Pond. “The stream leading to the lake is enjoyed by many paddlers,” says Rocky. “It is also another 14 miles — a good overnight kayak trip.”
While Sidney is a delightfully small town, all the amenities can be found in nearby Augusta and Waterville. Sidney is only an hour from Portland and about 2.5 hours from Boston.
Since he’s lived on the lake for 35 years, Rocky knows “every inch of this lake.” He has many memories, including family cookouts, camping trips, fishing adventures, water skiing, ice fishing, sailing and even ice boating.
But things have changed in his life and now it’s time for him to move on. A beautiful location. A beautiful lake. What are you waiting for? Call us now.
