Enjoy Views of Estes Lake From Chalet-Style Lindal Cedar Home in Sanford, Maine

Take in the views of Estes Lake from this beautiful Lindal Cedar lakefront home in Sanford, Maine. Located at 43 & 70 Lavalley Road, this is a three-level chalet-style house with an additional lot plus a three-bay garage.

Enter the 1,406-square-foot house and you’ll immediately be taken by the spacious feel of the living/dining combo with soaring ceilings and two-story windows that frame the view. A brick fireplace and built-in bookcases add to the charm.

On the lower level is a finished daylight basement with family room and kitchenette, including a breakfast bar.

Being a cedar home, it is maintenance free, except for some interior painting. And you don’t have to worry about insect invasions.
Step back outside and relax on the wrap-around deck or in the screened porch below.  Angela, the current owner, tell us, “Sitting on the deck, we watch eagles and blue heron fly by, the fish jump and the boaters stop and admire the house and landscape. It is peaceful and seeing everything wake up in the spring and the leaves change color in the fall is a wonder of nature.”
The grassy yard gently slopes toward the waterfront, where a dock awaits. A short set of stairs will lead bathers and waders into the water. The property is 2.85 acres and includes 210 feet of water frontage.

From Angela we learned the history of the house. “When I was a teenager,” she says, “my uncle owned the lot and we used to come on Sundays to picnic and swim. There was only a tent here at that time that was used for changing our clothes. The house was built in 1977. He died in 2007 and as the executrix of his estate I came up on weekends to check on the place and do necessary upgrades and repairs. My husband and I fell in love with the place and decided to buy it from the estate. We have spent many a lovely morning sipping coffee on the deck and watching the fish jump and boaters go by.”
Being a double lot, it can easily be the site for a large gathering. Angela says that last year they hosted their neighbors’ daughter’s wedding reception, which meant tent, tables and chairs for about 100 guests.
Angela and her husband love to BBQ, but she notes that “Each day the question arises . . . do we go out to dinner or take a sunset cruise with wine and cheese? Usually the sunset cruise wins out. A 1 1/2 hour tour around the lake is always a great way to end the day. When we do head out for dinner, Kennebunkport is only twenty minutes away with many seafood restaurants and an ocean view.”
Encompassing 387 acres, Estes Lake has a maximum depth of 30 feet and a mean depth of 10 feet. The lake is actually an impoundment of the Mousam River, formed when a dam was built in 1906. Delightfully so, access to the lake is limited, which means low boat traffic. “You can anchor in the middle of the lake,” says Angela, “and have lunch or fish without too many speed boats causing a large wake. Kayaking is also more enjoyable since the lake is quiet. Few waverunners and waterskiers make it safe for swimmers.”
Yes, it’s quiet on the lake, but close by you’ll find all the amenities you’ll need. It’s only minutes from Wells, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. In the northerly direction is Portland, 35 minutes away, which has become a culinary hot spot with many cuisines being represented. And the double lot is only an hour and a half from Boston.
Being on the smaller size for a lake, the neighbors are all friendly. “We hop on each others’ boats to chit chat and cruise the lake. Neighbors are there if you need them but everyone is private and not intrusive.” Ah . . . life the way it should be. And could be for you!
Angela and her husband have heavy hearts about selling the property. After spending six months here and six months closer to their sons for the last three years, the birth of a granddaughter means a change of plans. They decided it’s time to make their permanent home closer to their family.
This means you can purchase this attractive home and make it your own bright and sunny base for outdoor adventures. Bring the gang.
