Classic Maine Camp on Sebago Lake, Casco, Maine

Located behind the Dingley Islands on Sebago Lake, this seasonal house defines “Classic Maine Lakefront Camp.” The camp, at 57 Letitia Lane in Casco, is nestled among the pines in Kettle Cove.

This quaint and cozy camp has most of the amenities found in a regular home. The three bedrooms, one bathroom, living and dining area feature knotty pine. You can cook in the kitchen while laughing with friends in the living room. The screened-in sleeping porch might just become your favorite hangout. If Thad and Holly, the current owners, were to make any changes, it would just be to wrap the deck around “so it looks out at the end of the cove.” The 828-square-foot house is still expandable.

Step outside and you’ll see that the 240’ waterfront lot provides you with privacy, tranquility and direct access to the lake. Holly says, “Kettle Cove is a quiet spot on the lake. The swimming is great—it doesn’t get rough like the main lake can.”

There’s plenty of place to play on the 1.25-acre lot. One of the property’s best features she says is the location of the cottage in proximity to the water, the porch and the hammock next to the water. Imagine yourself enjoying the gentle swaying motion of the hammock.

The property is located next to Kettle Cove Marina. “Despite the marina,” says Holly,  “this is a very quiet, private location. We have little to no contact with neighbors. We have had many wonderful gatherings as a family and with friends . . . swimming, kayaking, eating lobsters, playing cards on the deck and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.” From the property there are views of a few camps and boats, but mainly you’ll see lots of tall white pines and the quiet end of the cove.

Sebago Lake is 12 miles long. The Great Basin width is five miles and the Jordan Bay width is two miles. It’s the second largest lake in Maine and the third largest in New England. The clarity of the water is so good that the bottom can be seen at depths up to 45 feet. Holly says, “It’s a great lake for swimming and boating. We love to just cut the motor in the middle of the lake and jump in—even our dog joins us for a swim!” And their favorite family hangouts–the sandbar at Sebago Lake Park and the ice cream shop on Frye Island.

They purchased the property from family in 2005, but as their children grow they realize they no longer have the time to enjoy the lake house the way they had intended.

This camp is in great shape. Purchase it and you’ll discover that this is the way life at the lake should be–carefree living, easy care and almost no maintenance. Kick back, watch the sun set, cook out, swim, kayak or just sway on the hammock.
