Enjoy views of Sebago Lake from the house, decks and screened-in porch
The large, three-level lakefront house at 46 Taralaine Drive in Sebago, Maine, is a comfortable family home within a luxurious, contemporary environment. Though the year-round house doesn’t sit directly on Sebago Lake, it does have access to a sandy association beach, dock and mooring space. And it has lots of windows from which to enjoy lake views.
Encompassing 3,500 square feet, the
year-round house features eight rooms, including four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
On the basement level, you’ll find an
over-sized TV room/game room, plus a bedroom. Sherry, the current owner, says, “The game room is a real bonus, and it keeps the commotion away for the living room/kitchen. The grandchildren, as well as the parents, love this room.”
Upstairs, on the main floor, the kitchen opens to the dining room and living room. A fieldstone fireplace and
lake views dominate this space. Open the doors and you and your family or friends can spill out onto the deck and porch. Sherry says, “Our screen room is a fantastic place to keep cool and relax with the beautiful view of the lake. I like to cook on the grill on our outside deck and it’s my favorite place for that first cup of coffee in the morning.” When asked if she’d make any changes to the property, she replied, “I would increase the size of the deck and make it wrap around on the kitchen side. You just can’t get enough of the outdoors.”
Back inside, step up to the second floor, where the master suite and two other bedrooms are located. Think of the master suite as
your own private hideaway spa within the bigger house. It features a colonial-style fireplace and balcony with dramatic views.
A two-car garage is attached to the house and a propane tank is buried underground. The house and yard offer plenty of space to play, host a reunion or wedding, or just relax. Watching wildlife will certainly become a favorite pastime. Sherry knows this all to well and tells us, “We often see two or three deer in the front yard; but the big talk is about the eagles. We have a
‘birds eye’ view of the ‘Sebago Eagles.’ Eagles mate for life, and the same two parents have been raising their young here for 12-13 years. During the mating season each spring we love to watch them soar, wing tip to wing tip, over the water and our property–so much in love. And during the summer, it’s fun to watch the baby eaglets learn to fly!”
Down by the water at the association beach is a fire pit. “Evening fires have seen a lot of roasted marshmallows and hot dogs on sticks!” says Sherry. “It’s fun to hang out with friends–just
sitting by the fire and looking at the water. We often share meals and drinks at the beach. The kids love to jump off the dock, and never get tired of swimming, or just skipping rocks from the shore.”
Sebago Lake is twelve miles long and has a 105-mile shoreline. The clarity of the water is so good that the bottom of the lake can be seen at depths up to 45 feet. “The nice thing about Sebago,” says Sherry, “is it’s
a huge waterway interconnected with Brandy Pond and Long Lake and it’s fun to take the boat through the Songo Locks and up to the public docks in Naples to go out to eat or get an ice cream. We have several great places to eat that are right on the water, close by on the causeway in Naples. My all time favorite is
Merced’s, but we often eat at
Rick’s Café,
Sandy’s Flight Deck and
Freedom Café. I love eating breakfast at Sandy’s on the outside deck.” From the house, it’s also an easy drive to
Naples Country Club,
Shawnee Peak Ski Area and
Sunday River.
Sherry says that they purchased the property in 2011 and
love the privacy and spaciousness of this beautiful house. Plus the views, of course. They are selling because they own another house on Sebago and six lots.
As you can see, this house is just right for family gatherings or a relaxing vacation. It’s also the
perfect year-round home–you’ll feel like you’re on vacation every day when you come home to 46 Taralaine Drive.
