Large Porch Offers Sweeping Views of Yard and Sebasticook Lake in Newport, Maine
Leave your troubles at the door when you own this custom-built Cape on Sebasticook Lake in Newport. Located at 67 Shady Lane, Elliot and Charlene built the house in 2002. They added the breezeway and garage in 2006.
When you enter the front door of this
2,695-square-foot house, you are greeted with yard and lake views from the living room. The living room also features a fieldstone fireplace and cathedral ceiling. There are wide pine floors throughout the home. Cabinet space is plentiful in the open kitchen. On the first floor is also a half bath, laundry room and
master bedroom suite.
Upstairs are
three more bedrooms and a full bath. A spacious family room with a wood stove is located in the daylight basement.
While the house is turnkey, the outdoor space is equally attractive . . . and
private. Set some rocking chairs on the porch and enjoy the serenity while you sip a cup of coffee.
Attached to the house is a breezeway and
two-car garage with a bonus room–waiting for you to turn it into a bunk room or office.
The lot is
3.73 acres and has 311 feet of water frontage, providing you and the kids plenty of space to play. Since the lot is situated on the east shore of the lake–think sunsets! Elliot built a deck overlooking the lake and says one of the reasons they bought the land was because it offered “beautiful sunsets across the lake.” They’ve also enjoyed the loons, bald eagles, osprey and fish.
The yard gently slopes toward the water. Sebasticook Lake is a creme-de-la creme kind of lake and
one of the best in Maine for bass fishing. Historically it was known as Great East Pond. It encompasses 4,537 acres and is entirely within the boundaries of Newport, the only town in Maine that completely surrounds a lake of its size. And yet, Elliot says, “It’s quiet . . . feels like you have it all to yourself.”
And when you come off the lake, you’ll find any amenities you need in the
vibrant village of Newport, including restaurants, unique shops and convenience stores. Newport is also conveniently located close to I95, so access is easy. Within five minutes of exiting the highway, you can be at your place. This means it’s also close to places like
Bar Harbor and Bangor. It’s just over an hour and a half from Portland and 3.5 hours from Boston.
Why are they selling this
beautiful piece of paradise? Because they want a property closer to home. They’re ready to let someone else enjoy the premo location and all that this house has to offer. I feel a game of bocci ball on that lawn in your future.
