Lakefront Property Owners Enjoy Hikes In and Around Livermore, Maine

Rolling Hills Surround Brettun’s Pond in Livermore, Maine

Lakefront property owners enjoy life on Bear Pond and Brettun’s Pond in the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine. Rolling hills surround the rural communities of Livermore, Livermore Falls, Leeds, Turner and Buckfield. Historic mill sites are an important part of the region. The Androscoggin River is also a focal point. Following the 1972 Clean Water Act, which made cleanup a national priority, some polluters along the Androscoggin River gradually came into compliance. Efforts continue to improve the water quality of the river, according to Neil Ward of the Androscoggin River Alliance.

Androscoggin Riverlands State Park
Twenty-three miles of hiking and multi-use trails meander through the park’s 2,588 acres. We highly recommend the Homestead Trail, which follows the river’s course and features old cellar holes worth exploring.

Corn Shop Trail
This short hike winds along Martin Stream. Return on the same trail.

Washburn-Norlands Living History Center
Follow old carriage roads and conjure up visions of life in the 19th century as you walk to Simeon Pools, a reflective pond. On a clear day enjoy views of Mount Washington.

Trail Access: Federal Road (Route 4), Livermore
Foundry Trail
A paved sidewalk follows alongside the Androscoggin River in downtown Livermore Falls. This is the site of the first pulp paper mill in Maine. From Riverside Park, enjoy views of the falls.

Trail Access: Main Street, Livermore Falls
Monument Hill
Named for a Civil War monument erected in the late 1800s, a one-mile loop leads  hikers to the summit of this hill. From the top, enjoy great views of the Androscoggin River.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate
Trail Access: North Road, Leeds
Curtis Homestead
Four trails loop about this property that was farmed until the late 1950s. White pines grow in what was once pasture. Enjoy the bog, stonewalls and glacial eratic.
Degree of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Trail Access: Bog Road, Leeds
Streaked Mountain
You’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of after the challenging half mile hike up this granite topped mountain. Don’t let the communication towers at the top spoil the views of the Little Androscoggin River Valley, Oxford Hills and White Mountains. Descend via the same trail.
