Island Studded Cobbosee Lake in the Winthrop Lakes Region

Winthrop, Monmouth and Wayne are three towns in the Winthrop Lakes Region of Maine. Winthrop is “a small town with big character,” located on the shores of Maranacook Lake to the north and Lake Annabessacook to the south. Monmouth is located on the northern end of Cochnewagon Lake, amid lush agricultural land. East Monmouth sets on Cobbosseeconte Lake, truly a boaters paradise. Wayne is one of the prettiest villages in Maine. Set on the northwest shoreline of Androscoggin Lake and south of Pocasset Lake, some describe it as an “Interlachen” village. The towns are located only three hours from Boston and just over an hour from Portland.

Thanks to the work of people associated with the Kennebec Land Trust, several trails and preserves are maintained for your hiking and nature explorations.
Mount Pisgah
A two-mile trail quickly ascends through mixed hardwood forest to the summit of Mount Pisgah. “Pisgah” is Hebrew for a look out or place with a view. As a former, open pasture, the summit overs 360-degree views. On a clear day, Mount Washington is visible. At the top, you’ll find a fire tower, which hasn’t been manned since the early ‘90s when the forest service began using plane surveillance. Use caution if you choose to climb the tower.

Perry Island Preserve
Located on Cobbossee Lake, this is a six-acre nature preserve. Access is via boat.
