Embrace the Lakefront Lifestyle on Forest Lake, Gray, Maine

Turn-key House on Forest Lake, Gray, Maine

Embrace the lakefront lifestyle at this cute year-round home on pristine Forest Lake in Gray, Maine. Built in 1995, the waterfront house at 149 Cottage Road was purchased by the current owners in 2004.

This house provides a beautiful setting for extraordinary year-round living, vacation getaways or retirement. The 1,380 square feet include a kitchen and living room on the first floor. Two bedrooms are on the second floor. The full walkout basement includes a bathroom. The owner is in the process of building a third bedroom in the basement. Large windows in the living room and second floor master bedroom frame the lake and sunlight dances on the ceilings.
The current owners say, “We loved how much work the previous owners had put into the house–the handmade kitchen cabinets, built-ins in the living room (for the TV) and bedrooms (drawers and TV cabinets), plus the hand-laid tile on the kitchen and bathroom floors.”
The gambrel-style house sits on quiet Forest Lake, which encompasses 210 acres and has above average water quality. It’s a small lake with no public access, which translates to not a lot of boat traffic.
By the water’s edge, you can roast hotdogs and marshmallows over the stone barbecue pit. It’s definitely a kid-friendly location, including the gradual, sandy entry into the lake. The quarter acre lot offers plenty of play space. Plan to spend lots of time on the dock with a fishing pole or a good book.
The owners tell us that the neighbors get together each summer for a potluck. “There’s a nice mix of families and older neighbors on the road, year-round and seasonal.”
Location is important to any property owner. In this case, the property is very close to the Maine turnpike, making it convenient, yet it’s in such a quiet setting that you’d never know a major highway is mere minutes away. Portland is a 25 minute trip, while it’s 30 minutes to  LL Bean and Freeport and 20 minutes to Sebago Lake. The coastal towns of Old Orchard Beach, Wells, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport and Kittery are only a day trip away. The same can be said for the White Mountains and North Conway, New Hampshire.
Gray is home to the Maine Wildlife Park, Fiddlehead Art and Science Center, and a great school system.
The reason the current owners are selling the waterfront property is because they “would like to find a house with more bedrooms for our family.”
Modern and serene, this turn-key house is a perfect retreat at the end of the day. With a wonderful mix of natural resources, a charming home and warm, friendly neighbors, your search for a lakefront property ends here.
