Sunset Reflection on Great East Lake, Acton, Maine
Lakefront property owners in the York County/Sanford Lakes Region of Maine need drive only a short distance to the Kennebunkport Christmas Prelude™. HGTV has recognized Kennebunkport as the #2 Christmas town in America.
Over the first two weekends of this magical season, the villages of the Kennebunks come alive with activities and events, shopping and dining, music and dance, for the young and old.
It’s easy to
capture the spirit of the season as you stroll along the main streets aglow with twinkling lights while you enjoy a steaming cup of mulled cider and Christmas cookies. Begun in 1982 as a means for the business community to thank the local residents for supporting them, the Prelude continues to be sponsored by the
Kennebunkport Business Association. What started as a modest affair has grown significantly.
Residents and visitors return year after year to enjoy the festive fare, Christmas carolers, street musicians, open houses, treescapes, arts and crafts fairs, holiday shopping, delightful decorations, historic costumes, three tree lighting ceremonies, live Nativity, trolley rides, fire and ice bar, bonfires, annual hat parade and fireworks. To the delight of everyone,
Santa arrives via a lobster boat accompanied by two lobster elves.
This is
a true celebration of community, friends and families. The townspeople begin preparing months in advance. Non-profit organizations and local businesses work together to create a memorable event for all to enjoy.
Light posts are decorated with garlands, a lobster tops the Christmas tree, and historic homes sparkle with Christmas lights. All
the magical merriment of an old-fashioned Christmas is wrapped up into these two weekends.
If you can hardly wait for Christmas, head to Kennebunkport and
experience New England charm in this quintessential village.
