Augusta Country Club Overlooks Lake Cobbosseeconte in Manchester, Maine

The lakefront town of Manchester, Maine offers golf and tennis players a picturesque setting on Lake Cobbosseeconte. The Augusta Country Club is located on the northern shore of the lake. Founded in 1916 by Guy Gannett, Percy V. Hill and Walter S. Wyman, the club began on the site of the former Brainyard Farm on Route 202. The following year, they purchased the Hammond Homestead, extending the property to the waterfront. The serene rural setting provides a magnificent backdrop for golf, tennis, swimming and dining. It’s also the perfect spot for a wedding or social gathering.

An 18-hole golf course, with its manicured greens and lush fairways, is carved out of the beautiful former farmland that slopes to the lake. Two lighted practice greens and a practice range allow members a warm-up or cool-down session. The club plays host to the Susan G. Komen Rally for a Cure Golf Tournament as well as many others. Tennis players enjoy the har-tru courts and participate in weekly matches and frequent tournaments. Lessons are available for both golf and tennis and exceptional play can be had by experts and novices.

The private beach provides members with a swimming area include a swim float, picnic tables, playground, and boat slips. Beach parties are a summer must and swimming lessons are available.
In the clubhouse, you’ll find the pro shop along with a lounge, pub and dining room featuring ambient lighting and fine linens.
If you don’t play golf or tennis, but still want to enjoy the networking and socialization afforded members, you can purchase a social membership. The Augusta Country Club prides itself on its casual atmosphere where your family can grow, socialize and entertain.
The 5,543-acre Lake Cobbosseeconte is an island-studded gem. The lake has a maximum depth of 100 feet and an average depth of 37 feet. It’s located 15 minutes west of Augusta, 45 minutes from Freeport and about an hour from Portland.
Along the shoreline in Manchester, you’ll also find Ladies Delight lighthouse, one of three lighthouses on the lake. It was built in 1908 to prevent passenger launches from going aground on the jagged reef about one mile south of Island Park. Manchester is also home to the Cobbosseeconte Yacht Club and Longfellow Greenhouses.
