Quimby Pond, Rangeley, Maine: Exciting Fly-Fishing From Lakefront Property

Fall mist on Quimby Pond, Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine

On Quimby Pond in Rangeley, Maine, lakefront property owners can experience exciting fly-fishing in scenic surroundings. Excellent habitat and low species competition add to the challenge.

Covering a surface of 157 acres, with a maximum depth of twelve feet and a mean depth of six feet, Quimby Pond has a 2.1 mile perimeter. Fishing is restricted to fly-fishing only, with no live bait allowed on the pond and no motorized boats. A carry-in boat launch is located on the northeast side of the pond.
The water quality of Quimby Pond has been rated in the below average category. Because of concern about this and an algal bloom, The Friends of Quimby Pond formed in 2009. The following year, they completed a watershed survey and identified 38 sites contributing to phosphorus and other pollution run-off into the pond. Since then, homeowners have been working diligently to complete best management practices to alleviate the problems and improve the water quality.
Waterfront property owners and renters should note that feeding ducks and deer, while a pleasurable experience as you interact with wildlife, contributes to the problem since their waste increases the phosphorus load of the pond.
Classic Maine camps, cabins and cottages are tucked away in the forest surrounding the Quimby Pond. Most have a rustic flavor with modern conveniences. Here you’ll find scenic vistas and clean air in a secluded, peaceful location.
Sit on the cabin porch to watch the sun rise or set. Star gaze beside the fire pit. Hike and hunt in the hills and mountains of the Rangeley Lakes area. Snowmobile on the ITS trails. Cross-country ski or snowshoe out your back door. Fly-fish on the pond or paddle about in your kayak or canoe. Downhill ski at nearby Saddleback Mountain. This is truly a year-round outdoor destination.
The village of Rangeley is only a ten minute drive from the pond. It’s a small town, but includes a movie theater, bowling alley, shops, restaurants and pubs along Main Street. Park your car and take a walk, being sure to patronize the outdoor gear shops, nature store and book store. Have your picture taken beneath the sign indicating the former site of “Doc” Grant’s Restaurant: “Halfway between the Equator and the North Pole, 3,107 miles from each.” Sit beside Rangeley Lake or at the gazebo by Haley Pond and enjoy the vibe of this town.
But always, return to Quimby Pond, knowing that you’ve found your waterfront sanctuary away from the hurried pace of modern life. To learn more about lakefront properties for sale on Quimby Pond, click on the green box above.
