View Loon Lake in Rangeley, Maine, from Your Canoe
Loon Lake in Rangeley, Maine, offers lakefront property owners a chance to return to the past when life seemed simpler. Surrounded by unspoiled wilderness in an area that has changed little over the years, a classic camp or cottage on Loon Lake provides the beauty and solitude of yesteryear.
Covering 171 acres, with a maximum depth of 50 feet and a mean depth of 21 feet, Loon Lake has
average water quality. There are no known aquatic invasives.
What kind of fish will I catch? The coldwater fishery has anglers pulling in
landlocked salmon and brook trout, which are stocked. Is there a public boat launch? No, there isn’t. This is a
motor-free lake, so only canoes, kayaks, row boats and sailboats will be found here. It’s also the perfect place to paddleboard and windsurf.
When you aren’t exploring the 2.8 mile perimeter of Loon Lake, you’ll find plenty of hiking and biking trails nearby. The lake is minutes from
Saddleback Mountain, Spotted Mountain, Burnham Hill Loop and the Bald Mountain trail.
However you choose to move about, you’re bound to see wildlife, including birds, loons, beavers, foxes, deer and moose. Make sure to
have a camera handy.
Once back at your waterfront cabin for the evening, enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine on the porch as you watch the
spectacular sunsets over Spotted Mountain’s 3,346-foot summit. And then settled in by your fire pit near the lakefront and take some time to listen–to the crackling fire, hooting owls, laughing loons and whispering trees. It’s also the perfect place to become familiar with the constellations like Cassiopeia, Hercules and Sagittarius.
Rangeley is only minutes away, where you’ll find shops, restaurants, pubs, a bowling alley, movie theater, outdoor ice rink and friendly people.
Like other places in the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine, when you’re at your lakefront cabin on Loon Lake you’ll soon find yourself immersed in nature.
Take time to see it, smell it, hear it, touch it, taste it–well, we do caution that you know what you are tasting, of course.
