Salmon Lake, Belgrade & Oakland, Maine: Experience Rose-colored Sunsets

Relax on Salmon Lake in the Belgrade Lakes Region of Maine
Salmon Lake (aka Ellis Pond) is located in the central Maine villages of Belgrade and Oakland. Retreat to your cabin or camp in the Belgrade Lakes Region for peace and quiet in a spectacular natural setting.

At 695 acres, the lake has a 7.9 mile perimeter of coves to explore. The maximum depth is 57 feet, with a mean depth of 23 feet. In the Belgrade chain of seven lakes, McGrath Pond flows into Salmon Lake and Salmon Lake empties into Great Pond.

Anglers LOVE the superb fishing. Salmon Lake is famous for its largemouth and smallmouth bass. Brown trout are stocked annually. Trailered boat access is located off Route 8 in Belgrade.
Water quality testing indicates the water is slightly below average. The McGrath Pond/Salmon Lake Association is working diligently to “preserve and protect the natural character, enhance the water quality and promote responsible use of the lakes for the benefit of all.” The Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance is also “dedicated to conserving the lands, water quality and natural heritage of the Belgrade Lakes Watershed.” A watershed management plan was developed and erosion controls have been implemented for over ten years. It’s imperative that lakefront property owners help by becoming informed and practicing best management plans on their waterfront real estate.
Residential Summer Camps set along the lakefront include Camp Modin, the oldest Jewish summer camp in New England, and the Maine Golf and Tennis Academy at Kennebec Camps. The Academy is rated “BEST in America” by Sports Illustrated.
Salmon Lake is a nature lover’s paradise. Besides being one of Maine’s best fishing lakes, there are nesting eagles and osprey, plus heron, ducks and loons. As you canoe or kayak along you may catch sight of a mink.
Explore the shops, galleries and farmstands along the rural byways. Find amenities in nearby Augusta and Waterville–only twenty minutes away. For day trips, shop at LL Bean in Freeport–45 minutes away; go whitewater rafting on the Kennebec, Dead or Penobscot Rivers–only 90 minutes away; or hike in Acadia National Park–two hours away.
But always–return to Salmon Lake and make time to slow down and enjoy each moment.
Endless forest. Open night sky. Rose-colored Sunsets. It can all be yours when you purchase lakefront vacation property on Salmon Lake. Canoe. Fish. Swim. Hike. On rainy days, light a fire and read or write. Rejuvenate. Drift off to sleep listening to the loons. Come for a week and you’ll want to stay forever.
