Thriving populations of fish are right at your lakefront doorstep in the Belgrade, Winthrop and Sebago Lakes Regions of Maine. The clear lakes and ponds provide quality fisheries. Landlocked Salmon and Lake Trout are present in many. Also, one of the best kept secrets in these regions is the excellent Smallmouth Bass fishing. Bass anglers are seldom disappointed as the fishing can be fast and furious. There’s nothing more exciting than hooking the big one.
Cobbosseeconte Lake, aka Cobbossee Lake, has Brown Trout, Chain Pickerel, White Perch and Yellow Perch, but its the Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass that attract anglers. According to Bassmaster magazine, “More times than not, the year’s top Largemouth has come out of the Cobbosseeconte drainage.” Boat launch: Turtle Run Road, off Route 202, East Winthrop.
Worthley Pond is stocked with Brown, Brook and Rainbow Trout. Boat launch: Dirt access off Route 122, Peru, east of the outlet culvert.
Androscoggin Lake has been know to produce unusually large Chain Pickerel and Bass, both Smallmouth and Largemouth. Joseph Arsenault set the state record in 1992 with the catch of a 6 lb, 8 oz. Chain Pickerel. Boat launch: Route 133, Wayne.
Lake Annabessacook is one of the most popular Largemouth Bass fishing spots in Central Maine. Smallmouth Bass, White and Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel, Northern Pike, Brown Trout, and Sunfish are also plentiful. Boat launch: Waugan Road, Winthrop.
Messalonskee Lake is home to Brown Trout, White Perch, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Chain Pickerel. Boat launches: Route 27, Belgrade; Belgrade Street, Oakland.

Sebago Lake is the original home of the Landlocked Salmon. Lake Trout and Bass are also plentiful. State records exist for Edward Balkely’s 22 lb, 8 oz Landlocked Salmon caught in 1907 and Neil Sullivan’s 7 lb, 8 oz Whitefish caught in 1958. Boat launches: Nason’s Beach, Route 114, Sebago; Raymond Beach, Route 302, Raymond.
Hancock Pond has Brown Trout and Bass. Boat launches: Swamp Road and West Shore Road, Denmark.
Moose Pond is famous for Bass, plus Salmon and White Perch. The Maine state record for Largemouth Bass was set by angler Robert Kamp in 1968–11 lbs, 10 oz. Boat launches: Route 302 on the Causeway, West Bridgton; Denmark Road, just beyond the public beach in Denmark.
Long Lake supports Salmon, Brown Trout, Bass and White Perch. Boat launches: Route 117, Harrison; Powerhouse Road off Kansas Road, Bridgton.
Thompson Lake is home to Lake Trout, Cusk, and Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. Landlocked Salmon are stocked here annually. In 1970, George Dyer set the state record with the catch of an 8 lb Smallmouth Bass. Boat Launch: Thompson Lake Marina, Heath Road, Casco fee.

Fishing licenses for residents and non-residents can be purchased at area convenience and sporting goods stores, town offices or on-line at www.informe.org/MOSES/ . Maine has a tough invasive plant law that prohibits the transport of any plant material on boats and trailers. Boats operated on inland waters must display an invasive plant sticker that can be purchased where fishing licenses are sold.
