Shawnee Peak Challenge, a Military Grade Obstacle Challenge, to Premiere in the Sebago Lakes Region of Maine

Shawnee Peak Ski Area and Moose Pond in Bridgton, Maine

Participants in the Shawnee Peak Challenge might have time to enjoy the views of Moose Pond in West Bridgton while they crawl, run and try to overcome a variety of physical challenges. The Challenge will take place on October 23rd at Shawnee Peak Ski Area, with the first wave beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Shawnee Peak Challenge is a military grade obstacle challenge crafted by a former Special Operations instructor. It’s intended to test the soul and physical ability of participants. Noted as “the best one day challenge on the East Coast,” the Shawnee Peak Challenge includes fifteen strenuous obstacles: Long Gun Alley, High Crawl, Balance Logs, The Bitch, Barrier Walls, Normandy Walls, Kyhber Pass, High Crawl and Tires, Monkey Bars, Uneven Fences, Cargo Net, The Trenches, The Mudpit, The Pipe and Commando Rope.

The course covers a total of 2-3 miles, but it’s not a road race. There are no time limits, though it should take the average participant about an hour to complete. Ten percent of the finishers by time will qualify for the final heat of the day–the Champions Heat–and a chance to be crowned the Shawnee Peak Challenge Champion.

For the younger set, a Mini-Peak Challenge will be held.

An apres-race party will take place at Blizzard’s Pub in the ski lodge, where a BBQ, beer and many stories will be shared.

The cost of the challenge is $95 before October 15 and $105 on race day if positions are still available. There is no fee for spectators.

All are asked not to bring animals to this event.

Once you’ve earned your bragging rights, make some time to look at lakefront property on the shores of Moose Pond. Peter Lowell, Executive Director of Lakes Environmental Association, describes Moose Pond as one of three “Cream of the Crop” ponds in the Lakes Region.
