Lakefront property on Taylor Pond offers homeowners the quietude of the water within minutes of downtown Auburn and Lewiston. Taylor Pond is 2 miles long, covers 640 acres and has a maximum depth of 44 feet with a mean depth of 17 feet.
The Taylor Pond Association (TPA), formed in 1974, does such things as monitor  water quality, observe construction projects and maintain ongoing communication with the City of Auburn, steer lakeside property owners toward lake-friendly improvements through the LakeSmart Grant Program and advocate for lake issues.

Wildlife is abundant on the pond. “Small groups of Hooded Mergansers, American Mergansers, Buffleheads and Goldeneyes,” visit the pond during spring and fall migrations according to Dana Little. “Only the Hooded Mergansers and Loons remain to breed on the pond.” Other wildlife sightings include white-tailed deer, Bald Eagles, coyotes, muskrats, beaver, frogs and other amphibians, otter, mink and red fox.Warm water fish such as small mouth bass, northern pike and pickerel thrive in the shallow waters of the pond. It is also a highly valued nursery for alewives.
Public access to the pond is limited. The Taylor Pond Yacht Club offers dock and boat moorings, a sandy beach, shaded picnic area, tennis courts and ball field. Children are encouraged to take swimming, tennis and sailing lessons. Adults enjoy socializing, tennis lessons and matches, and sailing races. Non-members may take lessons as well for an additional fee.
For rock hounds, nearby Mt. Apatite Park offers 325 acres of woodlands in the western part of Auburn. One hundred fifty years ago gem-quality tourmaline was first discovered there. Amateurs still search the mine for Apatite, Tourmaline and Quartz specimens. Rules do apply.
In spring, summer and fall, the trails at Mt. Apatite are open to mountain bikers, runners and hikers. These trails are groomed for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.
Three snowmobile clubs, Andy Valley Gypsies, Auburn Sno Groomers and Perkins Ridge Sno Travelers, groom the network of trails that link Auburn and the surrounding towns to the greater region. Four trails lead to and from Taylor Pond.
Lost Valley Ski Area, the Great Falls Performing Arts Center and L/A Arts programs are just a few of the opportunities available within a few minutes of your lakefront property on the pond. Museums include the Androscoggin Historical Society, Bates College Museum of Art and Museum LA, “which documents and celebrates the economic, social and technological legacy of Lewiston-Auburn and its people.”
