Aug. 3, Friday, 7:30pm, “Itamar Zorman plays Dvorak,” BIMF finishes the season with characteristic panache, welcoming Itamar Zorman to the stage alongside the full Festival orchestra. Zorman, winner of the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, performs Dvořák’s String Sextet earlier this season (July 18). Now he brings his touch to Dvořák’s innovative Violin Concerto, composed just as Dvořák was beginning to explore integrating traditional Slavonic music into his own work. Aug. 4, Saturday, 6pm, “Music on the Lake-Yasser Tejeda & Palotre,” Bay Chamber Concerts presents: Following up on our hugely successful previous concert, we are proud to present this infectiously rhythmic Dominican band. Featuring guitarist and composer Yasser Tejeda, drummer/percussionist Victor Otoniel Vargas, percussionist Jonathan Troncoso and bassist Kyle Miles, Palotré is the leading quartet on the Afro-Dominican jazz scene fusing Dominican roots music with jazz, blues, funk and rock. Aug. 7, Tuesday, 7:30pm, “DaPonte String Quartet Summer Series II: What the Light was Like,” features the world premiere of String Quartet No. 8 by Richard Danielpour, a renowned composer who has written for such artists as Frederika von Stade and Yo Yo Ma. The piece is based on a poem of the same name by Maine poet Amy Clampitt, and will feature Kristen Lindquist reciting the poem.
