July 26-29, Thursday-Sunday, 6pm/Thurs-Sat, 4pm/Sun, “Shakespeare Under the Stars: MacBeth,” the infamous tragedy explores Macbeth’s rise from celebrated war hero to his bloody and brief reign as King of medieval Scotland. Driven by grief and supernatural prophecy as well as the towering ambition of his wife, Macbeth leaves in his wake a path of murder, deceit and destruction. The play explores the nature of loss, the price of war and the lengths one is willing to go to rise above one’s circumstances. July 26, Thursday, 7:30pm, “Francien Janse-Balzer Organ Concert,” St. John’s Organ Society celebrates 26th season with summer organ concerts on Maine’s largest 19th-century mechanical-action pipe organ, E. & G. G. Hook’s magnificent Opus 288. The season continues on July 26 with Francien Janse-Balzer of Weener, Germany, who will perform a program of Dutch composers like Klaas Bolt and Jacques van Oortmerssen. She and Kevin Birch will also play music of Bach and Mozart for four hands, arranged by Dutch musicians. Francien Janse-Balzer, born 1959 in Zutphen, Netherlands, studied church organ in Amsterdam with Klaas Bolt from 1977 to 1981. She continued her studies with Jacques van Oortmerssen and got her concert diploma in 1984. July 27-29, Friday-Sunday, 9am/start time-2pm/end time, “KEMDI Fishing Derby,” this derby is to promote outdoor recreation and to raise money for the Stearns High School Outing club. The outing club was a club at Stearns High school where kids could go hiking, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities. Stearns High School has the privilege to own a camp located in Baxter State Park. The camp itself is in good shape but, some repairs to the bridge getting to the camp must be made. July 28, Saturday, 10am-2pm, “MVH Bangor Car Show Fundraiser,” last year was our biggest year to date with more than 100 cars, trucks and race cars on display at Maine Veterans’ Homes, the 101st Air Refueling Wing will be helping with the grills, free/admission, hamburger, chips and drink combo/$5, rain date Aug. 4th, Maine Veterans’ Homes, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor. July 28, Saturday, 10am-4pm, “Heavy Metal: 20 Tons on the Move,” join us for a chance to try your hand at a forge! We set up plenty for beginners to have a hand working with one of the smiths to create something on the forge. Check out all the machinery in motion–including our 20-ton, steam-powered Lombard loghauler, the first machine to haul wood.
