July 12-14, Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, “Jenny’s House of Joy,” set in a brothel in the town of Baxter Springs, Kansas in the year 1871, Jenny’s House of Joy is comedy-western of five women and how they ended up where they are, Jenny, the madam, is a tough businesswoman with a veneer of sophistication. Frances, the old vet, tough without a smooth exterior, Anita, the idealist, keen to escape the life and move into society and Natalie, a “lady” fleeing an abusive husband who is anxious to find work. July 14, Saturday, 7pm, “Union Coffeehouse presents Bill Berlinghoff,” Bill has played to enthusiastic audiences around the US and throughout Maine, and he is always a pleasure to hear. July 17, Tuesday, 1pm, “Judy Pancoast,” New England’s own Grammy Nominee for Best Children’s Album. Judy will invite children into “Judy’s Tune Room” to enjoy a 45-60 minute concert featuring original songs in a variety of styles from pop and rock to country and jazz. The children will even help Judy turn one of their own ideas into a short, memorable and melodic song, free, Auburn Public Library, Androscoggin Community Room, 49 Spring Street, Auburn. July 18, Wednesday, 6:30pm, “Thomas Jamrog Author Visit,” Thomas Jamrog, of Lincolnville, will give a talk about his five months of experience on the Continental Divide Trail. It is one of the toughest long-distance hikes in the world. The 2,500-mile trail starts in Mexico and travels along the spine of the Rockies into Canada. The presentation will draw on images of stories from his newly released book, “In the Path of Young Bulls.” He has also completed the Pacific Coast Trail, 2,650 miles, and the Appalachian Trail, 2,200 miles.
