“Half Moon Jug Band,” Riverfront Park, Orono

July 12, Thursday, 6pm, “Yellow Brick Road-A Tribute to Elton John,” a full concert tribute, complete with an incredible light show and sound system. July 12, Thursday, 8pm, “Half Moon Jug Band,” a three-man mob of musical desperadoes waging a daily battle against the humdrum forces of boredom and inaction. They fend off the blahs with banjoes, kazoos, guitars saxophones and silliness. They want to make you dance and sing along at the top of your lungs. Jug band music is homemade music. You won’t hear it on the radio, you won’t see it on MTV and you can’t get it at Wal-Mart. It’s a bubbling casserole of music as diverse as America itself. You’re not sure exactly what’s in there but boy, it sure sounds good. Labels don’t work. If it sounds good, if the audience claps, if it feels honest, then it’s jug band music. Bring your blankets and chairs and join us at the Riverfront Park for an evening of great music, free, Riverfront Park, North Main Street, Old Town. FMI: www.halfmoonjugband.com.
June 13-14, Friday-Saturday, 8pm, “Things You Shouldn’t Say,” This is the remarkable true story of four friends from San Francisco who had a life-changing epiphany at a Bette Midler concert that led to them to form The Kinsey Sicks in an effort to find joy during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis. Now they’re sharing their hilarious, inspiring and at times heartbreaking tale, and showing that hatred and deceit can be fought with humor and heart. “Things You Shouldn’t Say” was a smash hit Off-Broadway at New York’s fabled SoHo Playhouse and the Manhattan Digest described it as “stuffed with gleeful irreverence and hilarious parodies … [it] will leave you deeply moved and simultaneously amused.” Come join America’s Favorite Dragapella® Beautyshop Quartet as they lead us all in resisting despair with laughter, integrity, and heroically high hair, see site for ticketing details, Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor. Join us for a special tour–offered only once in 2017–as we visit the final resting places of some of those who shaped the Queen City, $10, $5/under 12, Superintendent’s House, Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1048 State Street, Bangor. FMI: www.bangorhistoricalsociety.org.
