July 8, Sunday, 2pm, “Two Old Cops,” enjoy an afternoon of tales guaranteed to make you laugh out loud! ohn Ford Sr., retired Maine Warden, and Mark Nickerson, retired Maine trooper, will tell their humorous and sometimes poignant tales of law enforcement in Maine. John Ford Sr. was raised along the shores of Mousam Lake in York County, Maine. He comes from a long line of police chiefs and state troopers, and served as District Game Warden in the Waldo County area for 20 years before becoming Sheriff of Waldo County in 1991. His popular books include “Suddenly the Cider Didn’t Taste so Good,” “The Cider Still Tastes Funny,” and “Deer Diaries.” Like his first two books, “Deer Diaries” regales the reader with touching, funny tales of his life as a game warden and sheriff who never lost his sense of humor even when dealing with the worst of humanity. Mark Nickerson went into police work following in the footsteps his father. After retiring from his 28-year career with the Maine State Police, Mark wrote columns about police work for “The Citizen” and the “Republican Journal.” His stories were later compiled into the book “Blue Lights in the Night.” In Nickerson’s second book, “Behind the Blue Lights: More Real-Life Stories from a Maine State Trooper,” he delves deeper into the reasons people become law enforcement officers, and offers some poignant insight into the difficulties of life behind the blue lights. In this book, Mark shows us both the humor and heartbreak behind the badge. A question and answer period and book signing will follow the presentation. Books will be available for purchase, free, Palermo Community Library, 2789 Route 3, Palermo. FMI: 207-993-6088, www.palermo.lib.me.us.
