June 28, Thursday, 6:30pm, “Concert on the Quad: Zapion and Anabee,” a student of the late Udi Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian, Bates College class of ’72, Eric LaPerna leads Zapion, a band that plays music from the Turkish and Arab traditions, as well as from Iran and the Balkans. Joining Zapion is Anabee, a dancer who performs in traditional Egyptian and Turkish styles. Bring a picnic and chairs or blankets. June 28-30, Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, “Little Shop of Horrors,” a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of food. June 29, Friday, 5-8pm, “Lewiston-Auburn Art Walk,” talented comedians, among other artists and performers will be featured, comedians will work in pairs to provide sets of comedy throughout the evening in select locations, “Married with Chitlins” a family bluegrass band will perform, various local artists will have their artwork on display, and sidewalk chalk for the kiddos, Downtown, Lewiston-Auburn. June 30, Saturday, 1pm, “The True Story of Little Red,” we all know the story of Little Red, who set off through the woods to bring sick Grammy some bread. But what if Red wasn’t so sweet, and Grammy not helpless but strong, the Woodsman a bully, and the Wolf the top dog? So how do we know which version of the story is true? June 30 and July 4, Saturday and Wednesday, 7:30pm, “Red Cloak Haunted History Twilight Tour,” join The Lady in the Red Cloak for a lantern lit walking tour of Hallowell. Discover the back streets and hidden stories of Hallowell, its mysteries and haunts. July 1, Sunday, 7:30pm, “8th Annual Classical Meets Pop Concert,” Highly anticipated Classical Meets Pop Concert and fireworks display returns to Mount Vernon for 8th year! Six of America’s most exciting up-and-coming musicians will perform at the Mount Vernon Community Center on Minnehonk Lake in Mt. Vernon. These six alumni musicians, who have been featured on NPR’s From the Top, the most popular weekly classical radio show on NPR, will present an exciting concert of classical and popular music on violin, cello, piano, and voice. Following the concert, there will be a fireworks display over Minnehonk Lake. Tickets are sold out for indoor seating; however, those interested are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and sit outside on the lawn to listen.
