June 21-27, Thursday-Wednesday, 2:30pm/Thurs, Sat, Sun, and Wed, 8pm/Thurs-Wed, “Oklahoma,” join the Ogunquit Playhouse for the beloved classic Oklahoma! celebrating its 75th Anniversary since first opening on Broadway. This groundbreaking musical was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, and in many ways was their most innovative, having set standards for musical theatre that are still being followed today. The original designs and choreography from Cameron Mackintosh’s London and Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, that made Hugh Jackman a star, will be featured in this lavish production. The high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys living in Western Indian Territory at the turn of the twentieth century, provide the colorful setting for Curly, the confident cowboy, and Laurey, the beautiful, head-strong farm girl, to play out their love story. Throw in a fierce rival vying for Laurey’s attention, one flirtatious fiancée, a reluctant suitor, magnificent choreography and one of the most beautiful musical scores ever written and you have a recipe for a rip roaring good time! June 22, Friday, 7pm, “Maeve Gilchrist and Keith Murphy,” harpist MAEVE GILCHRIST joins guitarist KEITH MURPHY in an evening of traditional music. June 23, Saturday, 9:30am/Sat, 8am/Sun, “New England Vintage Base Ball Festival,” Welcome to the third annual New England Vintage Base Ball Festival which will be held on June 23 & 24 at the historic Fairgrounds in Cornish Maine. This is base ball played by the rules of the 1860s, nine teams on 3 fields playing 8 to 10 games per day. Vintage games begin at 9:30 on Saturday and 8:00 on Sunday (schedule of games subject to change) – Sunday’s first game will feature Cornish residents led by Allan Wentworth.
