“Norlands Strawberry Festival and Craft Fair,” Washburn Norlands Living History Center, Livermore

June 21-24 and 27, Thursday-Sunday and Wednesday, 8pm/Thurs.-Fri, and 4pm/Sun, 2pm and 7pm/Wed, “Little Shop of Horrors,” a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of food. June 22, Friday, 2pm and 7pm, “Hot Fiddle!,” performed by Ashley Liberty and Daniel Strange, Violinist Ashley Liberty and pianist Daniel Strange will perform an entire program of smokin’ fast, exciting, foot-stomping music in their show. Violinist, Ashley Liberty and pianist, Daniel Strange have been performing together professionally since their marriage in 2007. As a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist, Daniel creates new and exciting music for the couple to perform in addition to their favorite classical music. Ashley’s violin playing has taken her to concert halls around the world. Lately, in addition to her concerts with Dan, Ashley performs in the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and is busy at home with the two tiny members of the Liberty-Strange family band (Harrison, 4 and Summer, 10 months). Daniel is the director of contemporary keyboard at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he also directs the award-winning American Music Ensemble. He is also the director of the award-winning, high school, All-Star Jazz Ensemble through the Community Arts Program in Coral Gables. Dan often performs with Broadway star, Norm Lewis and for touring Broadway shows such as Jersey Boys and Wicked among others. June 23, Saturday, 9am, “3rd Annual Androscoggin Land Trust Canoe & Kayak River Race,” This amateur, competitive, and FUN river race is being held in conjunction with the Great Falls Brewfest! Paddlers choose from three course options: 1.) The Long Distance Paddle – An approximately 7 mile course that includes a section of rapids typically rated class I or II (but could be class III depending on the water level on the day of the race). Average time: 1.5 hours. 2.) Twin City Boomerang Paddle – An approximately 3 mile course, Auburn to Lewiston boat launch & back upriver to Auburn (no rapids). Average Time: 45 minutes 3.) Twin City Paddle – An approximately 1.5 mile course. Short, fun paddle (no rapids) Auburn to Lewiston boat launch. Average Time: 20 minutes. Entry fees are $30 per single boat and $40 per double boat. Those registering by May 31st, will receive an early bird discount of $5 off entry. June 23, Saturday, 11am, “Norlands Strawberry Festival and Craft Fair,” the Festival features a craft fair with artisans demonstrating handmade craft and selling original artwork. Admission to the craft fair is free. Regular admission applies to all other activities. Activities for all ages. Ongoing activities for the day include horse-drawn hayrides, tours of the 1867 Washburn family mansion, blacksmithing demonstrations, lessons of the past in the one-room schoolhouse, living history in the farmer’s cottage, storytelling, and old-fashioned outdoor games such as hoops & graces. June 24, Sunday, 10:30am-1pm, “Jazz Brunch,” Snow Pond Center for Arts and the Snow Pond Music Festival present the first annual Snow Pond Jazz Brunch. Featuring faculty and students from the world renowned 21st Century Band Jazz Institute. Doors will open at 9:45am and the music will run from 10:30am-1pm. Members of the 21st Century Band include Ron Blake (Saxophone) of the Saturday Night Live band and Juilliard School, Dion Parsons (Drums) of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Music, Dept Head, University of the Virgin Islands, and Victor Provost (Steel Pan) of the Paquito D’Rivera Band and George Mason University.
