May 26, Saturday, 9am-1pm, “Taking Root Plant Sale,” get your gardening started at the 7th Annual Taking Root Plant Sale! Each year the Land Trust’s Tom Settlemire Community Garden holds a plant sale to inspire your garden and keep you digging all spring. There are an array of local heirloom varieties and the heartiest plants from your neighbor’s yards. In addition, you’ll have an opportunity to talk to master gardeners, who will be on hand to help you choose the best options for your garden. It’s not just about the plants you’ll find – it’s a wonderful day of celebration and seeing your community of local gardeners. The proceeds benefit the Tom Settlemire Community Garden which includes the Common Good Garden that supports the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program and an array of educational gardens serving local students, adults, and at risk youth, Masonic Hall, 65 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick. FMI: 207-729-7694, www.btlt.org.
May 26, Saturday, 9am-12:30pm, “Camden Farmers’ Market-Taste of the Market,” each vendor will be offering a sample of a dish using ingredients produced at their farm or business. This offers shoppers the opportunity to explore new recipes with spring-grown, local components like asparagus, rhubarb, and baby greens, and to buy seedlings to put in the ground for home-harvesting. In addition to Taste of the Market dishes, there will also be a range of perennial standbys available for tasting, from charcuterie to tofu, fresh bread and crackers, cheese and yogurt, energy gems and maple syrup. The market moved last year to the Tannery Park site a little further up Washington Street, and vendors will be set up for an extra half hour this year, a welcome change since there’s abundant room in the new location for picnicking and strolling along the river trail. After sampling the season’s bounty, grab a wood-fired pizza or breakfast bialy from Uproot Pie Co. or a croissant and a cup of coffee from Atlantic Baking Co. and enjoy live music by Dusty, Joanna & Friends (part of the weekly concert series), 116 Washington Street, Route 105, Camden.
