May 3, Thursday, 10:30am, “York History Series: Frontier Town 1670-1735,” local historian James Kences will present the eighth in his series about the history of York. This session will cover the Indian Wars, King Philip’s War 1675-1678, King Williams’ War 1689-1698, The Candlemas raid of 1692, Queen Anne’s War 1702-1713, the Essex County migration of new families, Dummer’s War 1722-1725, and the Norridgewock raid of 1724. May 4, Friday, 8pm, “Nick is Right: Comedy with Nick DiPaola,” one of the sharpest minds (and tongues) in stand-up comedy over the past 20 years, While 95% of comedians are liberal, Nick leans the other way and isn’t afraid to call it as he sees it. His strong political opinions and razor wit make him a perfect fit for talk radio. He currently hosts “The Nick Di Paolo Show” on SiriusXM and “The Nick Di Paolo Podcast”. May 5, Saturday, 1pm, “The Newfield Murders,” Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society opens its 2018 program schedule with The Newfield Murders. A quadruple homicide, a fire to destroy evidence and an out-of-town fugitive as suspect. Sounds like a trailer for a modern true crime program, except that it happened in 1900, in Newfield, Maine. Author CJ Pike and Janet Colwell take us back over 100 years to the events leading up to and after this gruesome murder.
