A cold-hearted prince has been magically transformed into an unsightly creature as punishment for his selfish ways. Dec. 15, Friday, 7pm, “New Renaissance Singers Winter Concert: Remembering Decembers,” our director, Molly J. Webster, has programmed a wonderful mix of sacred and secular music to help you celebrate the season! We’ll be kicking off the performance with Thomas Morley’s madrigal “Lirum Lirum”, followed by classic favorites such as Vittorio’s O Magnum Mysterium and Javier Busto’s Ave Maria. Dec. 15, Friday, 7pm, “Mystery of the Christmas Star,” Journey back 2000 years to Bethlehem as we seek to discover a scientific explanation for the Star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus. Investigate possible dates for the birth of Christ and look at recorded sightings of significant historical and astronomical events during this timeframe. We’ll explore scientific explanations for celestial objects that could have been remarkable enough to cause the wise men to travel across the desert from Babylon to Bethlehem just to see a newborn King. Regardless of what the star was, the message of Peace on Earth and goodwill to all still rings true today! Dec. 16, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Winter Solstice Singers,” A community-based choral group once again will present a winter solstice singing ritual this month for the greater Bangor area.
