Nov. 24-26, Friday-Sunday, 12pm/Friday events start, “Festival of Lights,” filled with holiday events including the arrival of Santa aboard a U.S. boat on Friday at noon, the lighting of the Lobster Trap Christmas Tree that evening at 6:00, Free Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides, Santa’s workshop, The Parade of Lights on Saturday at 6:00pm and the Pancake Breakfast with Santa on Sunday morning at 8:30am, Downtown, Rockland. Nov. 27, Monday, 7:30pm, “Middle Eastern Ensemble,” The Bowdoin Middle Eastern Ensemble, directed by Eric LaPerna and Amos Libby, will present classical and contemporary music from the Arabic and Ottoman Turkish traditions. The ensemble performs on traditional Middle Eastern musical instruments like the oud (Middle Eastern lute) and qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern zither) as well vocals and Western instruments along with Middle Eastern percussion, free, Studzinski Recital Hall, Bowdoin College, 12 Campus Road South, Brunswick. Nov. 28, Tuesday, 7pm, “Round the World Birding,” A special presentation by Becky Marvil, Yarmouth resident, Executive Director of the Acadia Birding Festival, Regional Coordinator for the Maine Breeding and Wintering Bird Atlas. In the summer of 2015, Becky spent 30 days with her husband and two other couples traveling around the world in a private plane. Their route took them from the U.S. to Newfoundland, the Azores, Turkey, Oman, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Taiwan, Russia, and Alaska. In addition to sightseeing and learning about different cultures, she enjoyed focusing on the birds, photographing and videotaping many species and learning about regional family variations and similarities from one stop to the next.
