“12th Annual Parade of Lights,” Downtown, Waterville

Nov. 24-25, Friday-Saturday, 10am-4pm, “Annual Christmas ExTRAINaganza,” As they walk through the door, visitors will see trains running on the multiple tracks and through the tunnels of the large G-gauge layout, with an interactive ski slope in an attractive winter scene. Around the corner, Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends run on a separate layout in the G-gauge room. The G-gauge layout has many features that are hidden from the earlier view, including an impressive new trestle for the logging train. In the next room interesting details have been added to the club’s permanent layout for the smaller n-scale trains. Club members have continued to develop scenery on the extensive HO layout downstairs. They have recently upgraded the track, added switches and created a second line in one section. Local residents may recognize many of the 1950’s scenes reproduced in the Lewiston Lower section of the layout, including Bates Mill #5. Older children can sign up to be Guest Engineers and operate one of the HO trains. Children will enjoy decorating and eating gingerbread boys and girls, creating Christmas ornaments to take home, and playing the special railroad games designed by the club. Younger children always have fun with the Brio set built at their height and the age-appropriate trains in the children’s play area. Parents can enjoy light refreshments while watching these activities from conveniently located tables and chairs in the craft area. The club’s store has locomotives and rolling stock in various scales, books, railroad hats, whistles, and other train-themed items which make good Christmas gifts. TRAIN TIME videos, produced by the club and seen on many local cable channels, will be shown continuously each day and will be available for sale, $3, free/under 12, Great Falls Model Railroad Club, 144 Mill Street, Auburn.
