Forget the princesses you think you know – the original storybook heroines have come back to life to set the record straight. These royal renegades tossed off their tiaras to bring their hilariously subversive, not-for-the-kiddies musical to you – and what you thought about princesses will never be the same, $20, City Theater, 205 Main Street, Biddeford. Oct. 28, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Villian: DeBlanks,” a Billy Mitchell comedy, A Time Out NY Critics’ Pick written by Billy Mitchell (SRT’s graphic arts director, and a favorite cast member of early Originals productions such as HAIR, THE 1940s RADIO HOUR, and TEN LITTLE INDIANS) VILLAIN: DeBLANKS is an uproarious improvisational comedy where the cast says words you put in their mouths! The audience provides nouns, adjectives, and verbs (the wilder, the better) and the actors provide the laughs—uncensored and unrehearsed—as they solve the mystery of Philip DeBlanks’ untimely demise. It’s “Clue” meets adult Mad Libs, performed by the funniest people in show biz. Like a ride to summer camp in the back of a station wagon, each hilarious performance is ridiculously one-of-a-kind. Cast includes Tony-nominee Brenda Braxton (Smokey Joe’s Café, SMASH) and Olivier-winning funnywoman Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Dames at Sea), Hollis resident and successful Hollywood actor, Richard McGonagle (500 Days of Summer), and Originals founders Dana Packard and Jennifer Porter, $25, $22/seniors & students, Saco River Theatre, 28 Salmon Falls Road, Bar Mills. FMI: 207-929-6476, www.sacorivertheatre.org.
Oct. 31, Tuesday, 8pm, “The Yardbirds in Concert,” The Yardbirds continue to hold true to the band’s legacy of masterful musicianship. Led by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer / founding member / drummer Jim McCarty, the band (consisting of guitarist Johnny A, bassist Kenny Aaronson, singer/blues harpist/percussionist Myke Scavone, and lead singer/guitarist John Idan) evoke the essence of the classic Yardbirds sound. Experiencing a Yardbirds concert is akin to a music history lesson. An integral part of the 1960s’ “British Invasion”, these blues-rock pioneers played a significant role in laying the groundwork for rock music. The band crafted blues-rock / psychedelic anthems “For Your Love”, “Over Under Sideways Down”, “Train Kept A-Rollin’”, and “Heart Full Of Soul”, to name a few — building an undeniable legacy that still reigns strong in 2017, $42.50, Jonathan’s Restaurant, 92 Bourne Lane, Ogunquit.
