Set in Hawaii in the weeks before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, this epic tale follows the powerful story of two U.S soldiers, the soulful Private Prewitt and ardent Sergeant Warden, as they embark on doomed and dangerous love affairs with the wrong women. As the infamous date of December 7th approaches, the claustrophobic world of the four lovers and the desperation of the soldiers of G Company splinter amidst an escalating war. Oct. 6, Friday, 8pm, “Susan Westenhoefer LIVE,” fearless, bold, unapologetic, and “freaking hilarious” best describes Comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer. She’s made a career out of telling the truth. Oct. 6, Friday, 8pm, “Doo Wop Project,” street corner singing for a whole new generation. Their show begins at the beginning, tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. Throughout the show, DWP takes you on a journey from foundational tunes of groups like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos through their influences on the sounds of Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, and the Four Seasons…all the way to Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and Amy Winehouse. Oct. 6 and 8, Friday and Sunday, 8pm/Fri, 3pm/Sun, “11th Annual Piano Festival,” Ogunquit Performing Arts celebrates its 11th Annual Elizabeth Dunaway Burnham Piano Festival by bringing two of the world’s best pianists to Ogunquit. This year’s festival features the music of the masters, as performed by two Maine-based, internationally renowned artists: Laura Kargul and Masanobu Ikemiya. Receptions to meet the artists follow the performances. On Friday, October 6th at 8 pm, Laura Kargul opens the Festival with a program entitled “A Night at the Opera”, featuring opera-inspired works by Mozart, Chopin, and Liszt. Ms. Kargul, Director of Keyboard Studies, Univ of Southern Maine, concertizes widely to rave reviews. On Sunday, October 8th, at 3 pm, the “middle Sunday” of the Festival, OPA’s Student Piano Recital showcases the area’s best young pianists. Oct. 7, Saturday, 8pm, “Ellis Paul & Sophie B Hawkins,” Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters.Though some may refer to him as a folksinger, he is more, for lack of a better word, a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another, regardless of age or upbringing. Oct. 10, Tuesday, 6pm, “Mike Rogers-Outside Looking In,” Mike Rogers, a wonderful blind songwriter, guitarist and poet, Mike presents scenes and characters in his life of seventy-five years. He has been on the road from coast to coast, New England and the Caribbean. This show is laced with Mike’s wry humor and paints portraits of people “outside the circle” in song, story- telling and poetry. Sometimes edgy, sometimes gentle, his characters are all real people from his journey through life and he places emphasis on understanding and accepting others.
