Sept. 14, Thursday, 7pm, “Maine Outdoor Film Festival,” the screening features a selection of films about skiing and other activities related to the area. Sept. 15, Friday, 8pm, “Matthew Sweet,” known for his power pop in the nineties, Nebraskan native Matthew Sweet delivered a slam dunk with his hit song and album, Girlfriend…a classic break up record. During a career that stretches back to the mid-’80s, Matthew Sweet has never followed trends, though his landmark 1991 album Girlfriend was responsible for starting one—its bone-dry, caterwauling sonics opening up a wild and picturesque new terrain for restless singer/songwriters to inhabit and explore. Sept. 16, Saturday, 7am, “2017 Loon Echo Trek,” the 17th annual Loon Echo Trek is the largest event benefiting the Loon Echo Land Trust! Proceeds from the event and sponsorship help us in our mission to conserve land for future generations. The 2017 Trek will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Shawnee Peak Ski Area in Bridgton, ME. Hike 4.5 or 6 miles across the ridge line of beautiful Pleasant Mountain, or bike 25, 50, 80 or 100 miles through the scenic hills and valleys of western Maine. Sept. 16, Saturday, 10am, “Flight 317,” a local, teenage bluegrass band, will kick off this season’s monthly concert series. Playing together at Yarmouth’s 317 Main Community Music Center, the band includes fiddle, mandolin, acoustic bass, guitar, and vocals. Sept. 16, Saturday, 5pm or 6pm, “Harvest Supper at Narramissic,” The Bridgton Historical Society and Rufus Porter Museum will co-host the annual Harvest Supper at Narramissic, the Society’s historic farmstead in South Bridgton. There will be a traditional turkey dinner, pies, and great company. Advance tickets, available at the Bridgton Historical Society Museum on Gibbs Avenue and the Rufus Porter Museum, will insure you get into the seating of your choice, either 5 o’clock or 6 o’clock. Proceeds from the dinner benefit both the Bridgton Historical Society and Rufus Porter Museum. Sept. 16, Saturday, 7pm, “Al Hawkes and the Nitehawks,” an evening of bluegrass and country music. Al Hawkes is a local legend and widely recognized as a pioneer of bluegrass and old time country music which he has been performing for decades. Al has lived in Westbrook since he was 10 years old and has been playing guitar since he was 12. Over the years, he has been recognized with over 30 national and regional awards, and has performed and recorded music with many different groups. Al recorded with the Nitehawks back in 1991 and his most recent CD is from 2014 titled “I Love the State of Maine,” $10-$12, North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail, Windham.
