Aug. 11, Friday, 7pm, “VentriCordi Chamber Music: ‘Heroic Horn’,” Brahms horn trio… need we say more? But yes, there is more to say. French composer Damase wrote a lovely trio for oboe, horn and piano, commissioned by hornist Martin Webster. Martin will be at the concert to speak about the commissioning process. Maine composer Bill Matthews is featured, along with Honneger’s Duo for violin and cello. Aug. 11, Friday, 8:30pm, “Nocturne,” BENJAMIN BEILMAN, violin; HAOCHEN ZHANG, piano; In addition to his return to Bay Chamber, Benjamin’s 2016-17 season also includes performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with Yannick Nézet-Séguin at Carnegie Hall; appearances as a soloist with the Symphony orchestras of Detroit, San Diego, Atlanta, and Grand Rapids; recital debuts in San Francisco and Vancouver; debuts with the City of Birmingham Symphony and at the Dvorak Festival in Prague; and a return to London’s Wigmore Hall, as well as a ten-city recital tour of Australia. Aug. 13, Sunday, 7pm, “Sandy River Ramblers Concert,” The Ramblers play bluegrass music with a special emphasis on original songs about Maine. According to Bangor Daily News writer George Smith, the band’s CD, Cry of the Loon and other original songs about Maine is “a gift to Mainers.” Smith writes, “The song Slow Down (You’ll Hit A Moose) should be played on that AM station available to tourists as they enter Maine on the turnpike … But it’s Boots from L.L. Bean that may be your favorite. It’s sure to become a classic.
