Hailed by Time Magazine as “Musical Theatre Gold!,” Bullets Over Broadway is the hilarious musical comedy about the making of a Broadway show, filled with tap dancing gangsters, saucy showgirls, big laughs and colorful characters including an aging diva, a savant hit-man and Sally Struthers as the dog-toting Eden Brent. July 21-23 and 27, Friday-Sunday and Thursday, 7:30pm/Fri.-Sat. and Thurs, 2:30pm/Sun, “Moon Over Buffalo,” this madcap comedy centers on fading stars George and Charlotte Hay (William McDonough III and Jennifer Porter.) Their glory days long gone, they are consigned to touring the country from one lowbrow theater to another. The play finds them stuck in Buffalo with their small company, which includes Charlotte’s hard-of-hearing mother, Ethel (Francesca Jellison) who despises George; the stalwart and amiable Paul (Joe Spinelli); and the company ingénue, Eileen (Amanda Painter) who, after a dalliance with George, has found herself in the family way. Into this powder keg enter the Hays’ daughter, Rosalind, (Elisabeth Hardcastle) who has recently renounced the theater life and its accompanying lunacy; her bumbling new fiancé, local TV weatherman, Howard (Randy Hunt); and The Hays’ attorney, Richard Maynard (Dana Packard) who has designs on Charlotte. Chaos and hilarity ensue when Charlotte learns of George’s infidelity just as George receives news from their agent that the famous director Frank Capra is considering them for his new movie, and is on his way to Buffalo to see their matinee. July 21, Friday, 8pm, “Steve Sweeney Comedy,” Born in Charlestown, Steve Sweeney is a legendary Boston comedian known as a master of dialects and character voices. With his famous Boston accent and great insight into human nature, Steve is so thoroughly Bostonian that he merits his own stop on the MBTA Green Line. He has been a featured on major television shows including David Letterman, Evening at the Improv, Comics Come Home, and Comedy Central, and starred in his own Boston-based sitcom, Park Street Under. July 22, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Eddie Forman Orchestra,” a diverse group of six musicians featuring great polka music and lyrics, has been entertaining audiences since 1968. The orchestra consists of six talented folks: Tom Frydryk (clarinet, saxophone, vocals), Bob Frydryk (trumpet, vocals), Charlie Pajak (bass & electric guitar), John Cieplik (drummer, vocals), Carol Forman (vocals), Eddie Forman, leader (accordion, piano, vocals) They have performed in many states of Eastern USA; been featured on several cruise lines; have 17 recordings – “Movin’ On” the most recent; and, Eddie has been inducted into the International Polka Music Hall of Fame. The band’s love for the music they perform, their versatile range of styles, and their lively performance make for a fun filled evening of excellent musical entertainment for people of all ages, free. July 23, Sunday, 9am, “Springvale Farm Walk,” Experience the variety of Maine agriculture while walking through fields, orchards, woods and pastures. Springvale Farm Walk is a four-mile, self-guided walk that connects to ten farms. The walk is organized by Sanford Trails and participating farms. Featured farms raise sheep, Christmas trees, mushrooms, vegetables, berries, and apples. They also make cheese, bottle hard cider and make maple syrup. The path is well-marked and generally follows gentle terrain. Walkers may start and end anywhere. A shuttle service is available. There are a few rough spots, but certainly walkable by children. Sturdy shoes are recommended. We welcome dogs on leashes and owners who pick up after them. Parking is available at McDougal Orchards, 201 Hanson Ridge Road, and Carpenter Tree Farm, 14 Hazen Drive – off Blanchard Road. Three Rivers Land Trust provides a pancake breakfast is available at 8 to 9 a.m. a.m. at McDougal Orchards. Each farm along the way serves a complimentary refreshing drink.
