Apr. 13, Thursday, 4:30pm, “Browntail Moths, What You Need to Know,” please join Lynne Holland, University of Maine Cooperative Extension Community Education Assistant, for an overview of the current Browntail Moth situation. We will discuss impact on trees and humans, precautions to take in infested areas, and what can (and cannot) be done to mitigate the problem. Apr. 14, Friday, 6:30pm, “Damariscotta Contra Dance,” will feature the Oystermen with Carter Newell, fiddle; Smokey McKeen, accordion and guitar; Eric Rolfson, bass and mandolin. Maggie Robinson will call at 8 p.m. There is also a potluck and family dance (all ages) starting at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Oyster Creek Fiddlers, with Kaity Newell calling. Apr. 15, Saturday, 12pm, “The Runaway Slave,” the Game Loft will host a dramatization of an 1850s Temperance Lecture and town meeting. Our keynote speaker will be former mayor of Portland, Neal Dow. The subject of the meeting will be what to do about the runaway slave in our small rural Maine community. This highly interactive presentation will allow the audience to decide on some of the issues that led to the Civil War. Guests will have the opportunity to talk to costumed interpreters from the Game Loft and community. The event is family friendly. Also at that time is a box social and luncheon. Local artists have painted boxes that will be auctioned to benefit the Game Loft with an historical luncheon created by Anne Saggese of Sweet Henry’s. The auction preview is a 12:00 with the auction beginning at 12:30. Additional refreshments will be sold at that time, free, Union Hall, 1 Union Street, Searsport. Apr. 15, Saturday, 1pm, “The Olson House: Photographers’ Muse,” the Farnsworth Art Museum will hold an artists’ talk in the museum’s auditorium at 1 p.m. Led by Farnsworth Chief Curator Michael K. Komanecky, the talk will feature photographers Ewa Zebrowski, Brian Vanden Brink, Tillman Crane and Peter Ralston, who all have works included in the exhibition. The Olson House was one of Andrew Wyeth’s major inspirations. The site of his most iconic painting Christina’s World, he portrayed the house and its surroundings in some 300 works over a period of three decades. Mostly through its connection to the artist, it became the subject for many important photographers’ works through the years. The exhibition The Olson House: Photographers’ Muse will include the works of Paul Caponigro, Linda Connor, Tillman Crane, James Moore, Bradley Prescott, Peter Ralston, Kosti Ruohomaa, George Tice, Brian Vanden Brink, and Ewa Zebrowski, and will be on display at the museum’s Wyeth Center through October 29, 2017, $5-$8, Farnsworth Art Museum, 16 Museum Street, Rockland.   FMI:  207-596-6457, www.farnsworthmuseum.org.
