A refreshing new comedy that makes us think about our relationships even as we laugh at them. March 24-16, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat. and Sun, “Swan Lake,” Maine State Ballet celebrates the 140th Anniversary of Swan Lake, Swan Lake premiered in 1877 at Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, but is the 1895 production by the Mariinksy Theater in St. Petersburg, with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, that has become the standard for most modern productions. Maine State Ballet’s Swan Lake, performed in four acts, incorporates much of the sacrosanct Petipa/Ivanov choreography, along with original choreography by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele. March 25, Saturday, 1pm, “The Met: Idomeneo,” a live broadcast from the Metropolitan Theater in New York. Mozart’s first operatic masterpiece returns to the Met in the classic Jean-Pierre Ponnelle production, conducted by Music Director James Levine. March 25, Saturday, 2pm, “Spring Apres Concert Series: Homegrown Reggae,” The second show of Sunday River’s Spring Apres Concert Series takes a trip to the islands with two Maine-based reggae bands. March 26, Sunday, 9:30am–2pm, “Pancake Breakfast,” experience a late winter ritual done the old-fashioned way at the Norlands, Maine’s oldest living history farm and museum, in celebration of Maine Maple Sunday, enjoy fresh hot pancakes and sausage, served with Norlands’ own maple syrup, in the historic farmer’s cottage, sap boiling demonstrations take place in the sugar house.
