Feb. 24, Friday, 7pm, “Comedian Bill Engvall,” a Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling recording artist and one of the top comedians in the country. Most recently, Bill was a contestant on season 17 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and as a fan favorite, he made it to the finals. Earlier this year, Bill lent his voice to the animated comedy series Bounty Hunters, which aired on CMT. Feb. 24, Friday, 7pm, “Stars,” explore the lifecycles of stars and how we are made of star dust! Every star has a story. Some are as old as time, faint and almost forgotten. Feb. 25-26, Saturday-Sunday, 10am-5pm/Sat, 10am-3pm/Sun, “Cabin Fever Reliever,” annual show where we partner with local outdoor exhibitors from the community to showcase the many different faces of the great Maine Outdoors. The show covers all of the different outdoor opportunities available in this great state of ours. Our target audience is families, and there will be lots for the youngsters to participate in, to include: YOUTH AIR RIFLE RANGE, YOUTH ARCHERY SHOOTING, YOUTH FLY TYING! Feb. 25, Saturday, 8pm, “Selected Shorts,” featuring segments from radio show, Selected Shorts is a weekly public radio show broadcast on over 130 stations to about 300,000 listeners. It is produced by Symphony Space and WNYC Radio and distributed by Public Radio International. The radio show is recorded live at the popular New York City stage show which began in 1985 and still enjoys sell-out audiences today at the Peter Sharp Theater at Symphony Space on Broadway and 95th Street in New York City. Selected Shorts is one of the premiere reading series in New York City. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes. There is a theme to each Selected Shorts episode and performance. Several stories are presented around each theme. The stories are always fiction, sometimes classic, sometimes new, always performed by great actors from stage, screen and television who bring these short stories to life. Feb. 26, Sunday, 11am-4pm, “Snowshoes & Poetry,” join Maine Yoga Adventures for a wintertime adventure at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge. You’ll snowshoe, practice yoga, eat yummy food, and write your hearts out with local author and artist Cheryl Daigle. The adventure will begin with a guided snowshoe, taking in all of the wondrous nature that Hirundo has to offer. Learn wildlife secrets for survival in wintertime. Along the walk, you’ll practice some gentle yoga in your snowshoes. Absolute beginners welcome. Warm up inside the Hirundo shelter with hot drinks and vegetarian soup. Cheryl Daigle will then lead you in a poetry workshop: leaning into hope & action through the spoken word. Feb. 26, Sunday, 1pm, “The Met Live: L’Amour de Loin,” Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s breakthrough opera was described by the New York Times as “transfixing…a lushly beautiful score.” Commissioned by the Salzburg Festival, where it was first seen in 2000, it will now finally have its Metropolitan Opera premiere in a dazzling new production by Robert Lepage, featuring glimmering ribbons of LED lights that extend across the length of the stage and over the orchestra pit. Eric Owens is the knight on a quest of love and Susanna Phillips is his lover on the other side of the sea.
