Feb. 18, Saturday, 7pm, “Stories We Tell,” the second installment of Engine’s Documentary Salon series, “Stories We Tell” followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Julia Wall Nickles and Mike Nickles, who recently directed the film Holly Star, filmed in Biddeford and Saco. MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Stories We Tell is a 2012 Canadian documentary film written and directed by Sarah Polley and produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). The film explores her family’s secrets—including one intimately related to Polley’s own identity. Feb. 19, Sunday, 10am-1:30pm, “Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market,” We are a winter farmers’ market but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty of fresh food! There are locally grown fresh vegetables available all winter long, as well as locally raised meats, handmade cheeses, goats’ milk soaps, honey, baked goods, homemade meals for your freezer, and more. The extended Berwick community gathers at the market for good food, live music, and a chance to find out what is happening in Berwick. Feb. 19, Sunday, 1pm, “Dress A Girl Around the World,” a campaign under Hope 4 Women International, to provide girls from all over the world with a new dress. February is “Share the Love” month at River Tree Arts and we are thrilled to be teaming up with local seamstress, Lucy Hardy, to host this wonderful event in our Community Art Room. If you love sewing and having a positive impact on the world, this event is for you! Instructions for making T-shirt dresses will be provided and all dresses made will be donated to, and distributed by, Hope 4 Women International. Please bring a child size T-shirt, a yard of fabric, embellishments and your own sewing machine if you have one. Come for an hour, or for the duration of the event. BYO lunch. Feb. 19, Sunday, 3pm, “Jim Prendergast & Ellen Carlson,” duo of guitarist/vocalist Jim Prendergast and fiddler Ellen Carlson will make a return visit to the “Concerts in West K!” series in February with another round of rootsy, vintage country music. Prendergast and Carlson treat audiences to a journey through the classic repertoire of vintage country music–everything from the Carter Family to Hank Williams to Patsy Cline to Willie Nelson. Both are both veteran performers who are well-known on the regions acoustic music scene. Prendergast spent over 30 years in Nashville, playing sessions and live gigs, before relocating to New Hampshire.
