“Gardens Aglow,” Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay

Dec. 29. Thursday, 5-7pm, “Drop-In Knit and Crochet Class,” Our drop-in classes are scheduled times when a skilled staff member will be available to help you with any knitting or crochet-related questions. There’s no scheduled subject matter. You might call these classes our “help hours”. Any number of students may show up, so this isn’t guaranteed one-on-one time, but we will give you as much individual attention as possible or as needed for two full hours. We intentionally schedule drop-in classes on the same evenings as Stitch-N-Spin circles so that you may stay and knit/crochet with us for as long as you like afterward, $15, Over the Rainbow Yarn, 18 School St, Rockland. Dec. 29-31, Friday-Saturday, 10am-5:30pm/Thurs. and Fri, 10am-3pm/Sat, “Gary Briechle Drawings and Photographs,” The exhibition will feature new photographic work and drawings by Gary Briechle. Briechle makes black-and-white photographs, often using a large format camera and wet plate collodion process. Turning to the family, friends, and moments closest to him for subject matter, Briechle does not shy away from dark or disconcerting imagery. Without judgment, he photographs the old and the young, the run-down and the beautiful, capturing an unfiltered and poignant reality. Of the medium, Briechle has said, “photography has the power to show the broken pieces, made whole again, for a moment.” Within the same subject matter, Gary also experiments with drawing. His drawings capture the same essence and spirit as his photography, creating a cohesive body of work that is interesting to any viewer, free, Maine Media Gallery, 18 Central St, Rockport. FMI: 207-517-0200, mainemedia.edu.
