Nov. 17, Thursday, 7pm, “Tanner Olin Smith & Tonic Engine,” Tanner Olin Smith writes Folk Songs and Instrumental Folk Music to be performed on the street, in houses and other intimate settings— improvisations and variations on pre-existing melodic/harmonic structures are written for each audience and venue; these modal pieces are presented on the 12-string guitar, the Buzzing/Appalachian Dobro guitar, Sung, on the Cittern, and the Harp-Zither, Tonic Engine is the Colby College Community Radio Association’s (WMHB Waterville) house folk/rock band, they enchant audiences with their up-and-coming attitude and folk/rock inspired songs, informed by gigantic books, Irish drinking songs and a predilection for grungy rock, a night with Tanner Olin Smith and Tonic Engine is a night you won’t want to miss, $12, Unity College Center for Performing Arts, 42 Depot St., Unity. Nov. 17-19, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm, “Constellations,” A spellbinding, romantic play by playwright Nick Payne, hailed by Vogue magazine as “one of the MOST DAZZLINGLY GIFTED DRAMATISTS OF A NEW GENERATION—SHARP, FUNNY, WISE, HUMANE.” This play features a cast of two and will be performed in the immersive Emera Astronomy Center at the University of Maine. Nov. 19, Saturday, 8am-2pm, “Holiday Fair and Luncheon,” featuring handmade baskets, braided rugs, scarves, mittens, primitive crafts and more. There will also be baked goods, fudge, jams, jellies, candy and turkey pies. Gift baskets for all occasions, attic treasures, and collectibles will be offered for sale. There will be a cookie bar where people can fill a tin with a variety of cookies. The Simply Soups and Pie Cafe includes a variety of homemade soups, bread and pies.
