Oct. 7, Friday, 6:30pm, “KELT Concert on the Kennebec,” The KELT Concert on the Kennebec features local musician Nancy Sferra and Seattle alternative folk duo, Animals of Grace. Gather with KELT for music, snacks, and good company to support a worthy cause! This is a family friendly event, appropriate for all ages. All proceeds from the show will benefit KELT’s programs for kids, students, families, and adults that support local water, wetlands, and fish. Some of these popular programs include volunteer water testing on the Kennebec River, green crab trapping with Bath Middle School students, the annual fish count at Nequasset Fish Ladder, and storm drain stenciling in downtown Bath. Snacks for the event have been graciously donated by Hahn’s End Cheese, Goranson Farm, and Bath Natural Market. The musicians performing for the KELT Concert on the Kennebec bring individual talents and original songs. Nancy Sferra: A folk/blues songwriter from midcoast Maine accompanying original lyrics with guitar, steel guitar, and banjo. Her narrative songs focus on acts and objects that are part of the life of rural Maine. Animals of Grace: An alternative folk duo from Seattle with 12 string guitar, cajon, lyric vocals, and intricate harmonies. Their songs feature the words of Maine poet Edna St. Vincent Millay set to music and original words of resiliency and connection to the land, $5, Bath Freight Shed, 27 Commercial Street, Bath. Oct. 7, Friday, 7:30pm, “Castlebay,” We are thrilled to welcome back Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee who musically weave together the heritage of New England and the Celtic lands. Oct. 8, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Heather Masse & Jed Wilson,” Masse, a Maine native, is well-known to audiences as a regular guest on the NPR radio show “A Prairie Home Companion” and as a member of the Billboard-charting folk supergroup, The Waylin’ Jennys. While she’s one-third of that award-winning trio, Masse’s latest albums have showcased her jazz vocals, a return to her roots. In fact, Masse credits her background in jazz as helping to shape her distinct approach to singing folk, pop and bluegrass. Oct. 8, Saturday, 8pm, “An Evening with Leo Kottke,” Leo Kottke is an extraordinary acoustic guitarist, widely known for his innovative finger-picking style, which draws on influences from blues, jazz, and folk music, and his syncopated, polyphonic melodies. Kottke is a five-time winner of Guitar Players Magazine’s award for best instrumentalist. Leo’s live fan favorites include “June Bug,” “Pamela Brown,” “Julie’s House,” “Pepe Hush” and “Jack Gets Up.” Known also for his eccentric persona, and dry sense of humor, Kottke has been awarded two Grammy nominations; a Doctorate in Music Performance by the Peck School of Music at the U of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; and a Certificate of Significant Achievement in Not Playing the Trombone from the U of Texas at Brownsville with Texas Southmost College, $35, The Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street, Rockland. Oct. 9, Sunday, 2pm, “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington: An Afternoon with Margaret Chase Smith,” This one-woman play is an intimate and fascinating look at the life and times of Margaret Chase Smith, told in her own words and in the words of the people closest to her. Senator Smith, a Maine native, was the first woman elected to both the House and the Senate, and the first senator to speak out publicly against Senator Joe McCarthy. Oct. 10, Monday, 7pm, “British Invasion, Double Bill,” with Chad, Jeremy and Denny Laine of Wings performs Band on the Run album. Denny Laine celebrates the 40th anniversary of the “Wings Over America” tour with a live on stage performance of their greatest album, “Band on the Run” –complete and unabridged! By far the most successful album involving any of the Beatles following their breakup, “Band on the Run” was created by Paul McCartney, Denny Laine and Linda McCartney. Expect other Wings hits such as “Live and Let Die”, and “Time to Hide” as well as Denny’s legendary lead vocal on the Moody Blues classic “Go Now” to round out this special anniversary show. Chad and Jeremy are an English singing folk rock duo originating in the 1960s, comprising Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde. Jeremy often sings the melody of a song while Chad sings higher harmonies.
