Sept. 9, Friday, 6:30pm, “Married with Chitlins,” evening of traditional American music, old-time country and blues, and Celtic reels and jigs. Sept. 10, Saturday, 10am-4pm, “15th Annual Fall Festival of Arts & Crafts,” A show and sale of unique handcrafted products made by over 100 Maine Artisans on the grounds of Smiling Hill Farm. Sept. 10, Saturday, 1-4pm, “Pie & Fashion Fundraiser for Norlands,” Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Maine’s oldest living history museum. This 6th annual fundraiser for Norlands features homemade pie with a side of fashion. Historical costumes are on display in the 1867 mansion and the program features not one, but two fashion shows. Enjoy “Under the Dress – Victorian Secrets” at 1:30pm, presented by Carolyn Lawson, member of the Third Maine Company A Regiment Volunteer Infantry. She’ll talk about the ideal of beauty in the mid-1900s and show how clothing construction and wired undergarments created the distinctive Victorian silhouette. At 2:30pm, watch “Hats to Hoops: What the Washburn Women Wore.” Norlands interpreters portray Patty Washburn, Caroline Washburn, and Adele Gratiot Washburne and share the history of their famous family and show the many layers and styles appropriate to their 19th-century positions. The one-room schoolhouse, just a short walk down the road, is also open. Mrs. Howard, school’marm, is waiting for scholars. It’s all in fun! Sept. 10, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Anni Clark,” well known as a folk singer and song writer in Maine and beyond. She has toured all of the eastern states and most of the southwest; she has shared stages with performers like Shawn Colvin, Richie Havens and Dar Williams. She has recorded seven successful albums including Anni Clarke LIVE, which earned her a nomination for the Texas Music Awards “Female Vocalist of the Year.” Maine’s Kennebec Journal wrote about Anni, “she can have you laughing one moment and close to tears the next with the honest emotions in her material.” Blending folk, pop, and blues with a dash of Maine humor, Anni’s performances are sure to please audiences of all ages, $10, Village Coffeehouse, First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester.
